Centrally located hotels in Kolkatta, mountainside rooms in Darjeeling, 360 degree views in Gangtok accommodations. Fantastic assortment of standard to deluxe rooms to choose from.
Best Time: The hill stations experiences rainfall throughout much of the year. But from late March (as it warms up) through the beginning of May enjoys the most sunshine as well as October/November. Monsoons typically create mudslides and road closings so they're probably best avoided. March thru June (Spring/Summer)
Kolkatta (Calcutta) is one of the easiest India hubs to reach - via Air, Rail, or Bus...anything and everyone eventually goes to Kolkatta. Book a train from most anywhere, fly in domestically or internationally, take the roadway and enjoy the scenery.
Hotel cuisine in Darjeeling and Gangtok is often quite varied and wonderfully prepared...but don't miss out on the Momo Shacks up in the mountains. Kolkatta offers just about every thing imaginable but their local chaat specialities should not be missed.
Kolkatta - the Cultural Capital of India - much more old world charm than any other metropolis - a true delight. Leaving Kolkatta, the scenery becomes the greatest attraction...riding in a jeep up the mountain to Darjeeling, tea gardens lining the mountainsides, snow-capped mountains in the distance, Gangtok mountain lakes, rivers and waterfalls, mountainside monasteries, fields of flowers, wildlife... amazement at every turn..
