When to visit the Rajasthan Desert

Best Time: Winter in Rajasthan offers very cool evening temps and shorts weather throughout the day. Summers are incredibly hot but arid. Moonsoons can be quite enjoyable as rains occur mostly in the late afternoon offering a respite from the day's heat.

How to get to Jaipur

Jaipur is connected to all major India hubs via Air, Rail and Bus. It is also very easy to get to from just about anywhere in Rajasthan and most especially Delhi. Both public and private buses leave from Delhi to Jaipur every 30 minutes all day long and take about 6 hours. A private car will take just 4 hours. No need to plan ahead, transport is always available.

Day 1 : Jaipur to Pushkar (160 km / 4 hour drive)

Drive to Pushkar and spend the day exploring one of the most religious towns for Hindus in all of Rajasthan. Pushkar is also world famous for it's own Camel Festival when the town is transformed into a spectacular fairground where thousands of pilgrims come to bathe in the holy water of Pushkar Lake, trade their camels, and participate in the festivities centered around the Camel Fair.

Day 2: Pushkar to Udaipur (295 km / 7 hour drive)

On the way to Udaipur, stop off at the most famous fort in Rajasthan, the Chittorgarh Fort. Towering over the crest of the enormous Grey Hill, girdled by massive walls and seven majestic gateways, dotted with shattered palaces, discover the "Temple of Mirabai" - the intricately carved 9-story Tower of Fame built in the 12th century in honor of Lord Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara. Proceed to Udaipur - the beautiful City of Lakes - to spend the night.

Day 3: Udaipur

Spend the day sightseeing. (See "Local Attractions" for a comprehensive list of activities and places of interest).

Day 4: Udaipur to Jodhpur via Ranakpur (270 km / 6 hour drive)

On the way to Jodhpur, stop off at Ranakpur to visit the beautiful Jain temples in the foothills of Kumbhalgarh National Park. Continue the drive to Jodhpur where you'll spend the night.

Day 5: Jodhpur to Jaisalmer (290 km / 7 hour drive)

After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Jodhpur. Visit the Mehrangarh Fort for panoramic views of the city. Along the drive to Jaisalmer stop off at Jaswant Thade and the Ummed Bhawan Palace for picture taking. Continue on to Jaislamer and check-in for the next two nights.

Day 6: Jaisalmer

Enjoy the day touring the city. The city surrounding the Jaisalmer Fort is just as amazing and unique as the fort itself. Get lost in the time in the narrow winding streets lined with decorated lattice work and floral paintings and the intricate artwork on the havelis all the while weaving your way up to the fort. In the late afternoon take a trip to the Sand Dunes, ride camels in the dunes while watching the sunset. Return to Jaisalmer for some tasty Rajasthani tandoori.

Day 7: End of Tour

Morning hotel check-out.
