SOUTH INDIA PILGRIMAGE BUDGET TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Chennai
You will be greeted by a Tour Packages India Representative and then escorted to your hotel. Enjoy an afteroon tour of Chennai. Stroll along the Marina Beach in the evening to catch the nightlife of Chennai scene.
Day 2: Chennai to Tirupati (150 km / 4 hour drive)
Proceed to the holy Thirumala Hills, home to the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati - one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in India. Hotel check-in and an evening to explore the town.
Day 3: Tirupati
Take the day to visit the Sri Venkateswara Temple and a host of other pilgrimage attractions including holy waterfalls, sacred rivers and archaelogical wonders. Enjoy a relaxing evening. Spend the night.
Day 4: Tirupati to Kanchipuram (95 km / 3 hour drive)
Leave the cool hills of Thirumala and head down to the spiritual Hindu town of Kanchipuram - also famous for it's textiles. Visit some of the major temples: Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, Ekambaranatha Temple, Vaikunta Perumal Temple, Varadaraja Perumal Temple, Kailasanthar Temple.
Day 5: Kanchipuram to Kumbakonam (230 km / 4 hour drive)
Take the morning to visit some of the local weaving centers - Kanchipuram is famous for both cotton and silk textiles. The reasonable prices will impress you as much as the workers who so deftly produce the goods. Later, enjoy the scenic drive to Kumakonam where you'll spend the next two nights.
Day 6: Kumbakonam
Take the Navagraha Temple Tour to see some of the more prominent temples of Kumbakonam. Llike Kanchipuram, Kumbakonam is also well known for its silk industry as well as producers of great brass wares. Spend the evening as you like.
Day 7: Kumbakonam to Rameswaram (335 km / 6 hour drive)
Be sure to check out brasswares and silk shops in the morning before departing for Rameswaram. Spend the afternoon traveling to the coast, across India's longest sea bridge (2.2 km) over the Palk Strait, to the Hindu pilgrimage center of Rameswaram.
Day 8: Rameswaram to Madurai (175 km / 4 hour drive)
Visit some of the tourist highlights: Sri Ramananthaswamy Temple, Corridor of 1000 Pillars, the Floating Stones at the Hanuman Temple, the Danushkodi Fishing Village. Drive to Madurai in the afternoon where you'll spend the next two nights.
Day 9: Madurai
Spend the day touring the city. Don't miss the Meenakshi Temple, the Koodal Alagar Temple, Thiruparankundram, the evening Sound & Light Show at the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, Gandhi Museum, and the Kazimar Big Mosque and Maqbara.
Day 10: Madurai Departure
You will be driven to your point of departure in Madurai.
