Best Time: Winters most definitely offer the most comfortable temperatures to enjoy Varanasi. Monsoons are also enjoyable as the late day rains offer relief from the heat - they also attract the tourist who likes to visit at "off" times. Varanasi is a little more low key during the monsoons. Best to avoid Summers - scorching.
